'Vinyl' Is a Hit

As with many other areas of fashion, the popularity of various shades of nail color often cycle through phases—some dramatic, some tame, and still others somewhere in between. This past fall and winter women went crazy for super dark, almost gothic nail colors such as Chanel's "Black Satin" and Lippmann Collection's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot." This spring, in true form, colors have moved away from the morose, and taken on a playful, fun vibe.

Deborah Lippmann, the celebrity manicurist and creator of the eponymous nail care line, is taking advantage of the resurgence in the bold nail color trend with a new line called Vinyl, debuting at Bath and Body Works right now. Lippmann, who is also a singer, timed the debut of her new collection to coincide with the release of her newest CD, a collection of cover songs that were originally recorded on vinyl.

Lippmann points out that the Vinyl nail color collection is definitely more casual than previous ones, and inspiration comes directly from the fall 2007 runway collections (just check out Balenciaga's colorful fall collection here ). The colors, as Lippmann points out, "...are designed to let women have fun with their manicures and pedicures, and add extra color to their lives."

For Lippmann, who sees color as an accessory like any other, the new set of colors from Vinyl are simply a way to have fun. As Lippmann aptly points out, "You can always take it off."

Colors like "Money," a shiny white-hot neutral, along with "Make Me Love You," a sweet coral, are perfect for summer. StyleChronicles' favorite is "Need You Tonight," a true red that would look perfect with many of the mod-ish black and white color combinations popular this season. Vinyl, however, will introduce a new set of ultra-current colors twice a year, so it will always reflect the latest preoccupation of the fashion world at the time. Lippmann also identified the demand for safe, Toluene-and DDP-free nail polish, that still delivers even coverage, and an outstanding vinyl-like finish, essential to the perfect summer pedicure.

Lippmann's new Vinyl collection can be found at Bath and Body Works; her eponymous nail color and treatment line, Lippmann Collection, can be found at BeautySak.com . We highly recommend the Get Off foot softener, which is unmatched in its ability to soften toes and heels alike. -StyleChronicles
